Logitech Harmony 880 Review
Ever get sick of having tons of remotes lying around? Need a universal remote that can eliminate all of them but one? I think the Logitech Harmony 880 is perfect for you then. Here at our house, we have over 6 remotes on one home theater system, which now, is just too much. I recently came across the Harmony 880 universal remote, and it rocks. First, in the box, you’ll get a few things including the remote, a recharging station, the AC adapter, USB cable, battery, and a few pamphlets here and there. Setting up the remote simply can’t be easier, just charge it, plug in the USB cable to your PC or Mac, setup the software, select what devices you have and you’re pretty much set.
The design of the remote couldn’t be simpler either. You have a basic LCD screen up top and the rest is just like a standard remote, with the standard buttons for controlling your home stereo, TV and other things like a PVR. The only quirk that comes to mind for me is placing the number buttons towards the bottom end of the remote, in my opinion, they’re too far down but this may not be a problem for you. Other than that, I don’t think the design could be better!
Using the small but useful LCD makes things a whole lot smoother. When you want to do an activity such as, watch TV, or play a DVD, you pick it and everything related to that action powers up, it’s almost just like magic. Controlling the separate devices isn’t that complicated either, just select the device button, pick the preferred device and start controlling. A little tedious if you have a ton of devices, but for the average user, it’s excellent.
Overall, the remote is an excellent product and I would recommend it to anyone who has 2 or more remotes, and it’s an excellent peripheral to add to a professional home theater setup.
Pros:
- Excellent design.
- Easy to use interface.
Cons:
- Pricey.
- Numerical buttons are placed towards bottom of remote.
The Logitech Harmony 880 retails for $249.99 and is available now.
MacSpark rating: 4.5 out of 5.
