Microsoft Wireless Notebook Presenter Mouse 8000
Microsoft recently introduced a handy little mouse, dubbed the Wireless Notebook Presenter Mouse 8000 (Gee, that's a mouthful, isn't it?) that's aimed at business presenters but it can be useful for some other people, as you'll see later on.
Besides being a fun cat toy with the included laser pointer, the WNPM 8000 offers many more features including media and presentation (hence the presenter name) on the bottom of the mouse. The WNPM 8000 is controlled via a Bluetooth USB dongle that plugs into any standard USB port, although no "dock" for the dongle is included if it doesn't fit right according to your computer, we found that the dongle fit fine on one of our test machines. One odd thing is that the mouse includes a plastic molded carrying case with a lanyard that goes around your wrist, not sure why this beats carrying around this miniscule piece of hardware in your hand. The basic acceleration of the mouse was decent, although we found it a bit too fast for our liking. The laser pointer was a nice touch to the mouse, and we don't suggest you start pointing it in people's eyes. We would highly recommend it to business executives who present PowerPoint presentations frequently, but on the other hand, it's still a great portable mouse for anyone. This mouse receives our 4.5 out of 5 rating, due to the lack of a dock for the dongle, but it is still highly recommended.
The Wireless Notebook Presenter Mouse 8000 is available now for a price of $99.99, which may be a bit expensive, check out the Logitech V450 Cordless Laser Mouse as an alternative, which is $49.99.
