Logitech DiNovo Edge Put to the Test

Logitech DiNovo Edge in Dock

Have a home media center hooked up to a nice, big screen TV or are you looking for a wireless keyboard to get rid of those ugly wires this holiday season? Time to check out the Logitech DiNovo Edge wireless keyboard.

In a sleek, piano black finish, with orange accents, the DiNovo Edge is packed full of features to make this the ultimate in tech luxury. These orange accents magically appear through the keyboard’s surface when used with a certain function (i.e. mute) or with a special ‘Fn’ key, making for a magnificent design.

Using Bluetooth technology, the DiNovo Edge is compatible with both Macs and PCs, although Logitech claims that a PC is required for use of this keyboard, it works just fine with Mac OS X. The functions like zooming in and out, launching Windows Media Player, and using the Fn function keys are sadly not available for Mac users but Logitech should be releasing Mac drivers not too soon from now.

I should add that if you don’t have Bluetooth built-in on your computer, Logitech bundles in a USB Bluetooth dongle to use. In any event, setup was generally easy and flawless.

The keys on the Logitech DiNovo Edge are similar to ones on a notebook computer and no delay is experienced while typing thanks to Logitech’s PerfectStroke technology. “A precision micro-scissors mechanism distributes typing force evenly across key surfaces, making every stroke natural and fluid.”

A feature exclusive to the DiNovo Edge, as far as I know of, is the elliptical trackpad on the right-hand side of the keyboard. Great addition to your media center PC. Scroll your finger around the edge of the trackpad and watch long documents fly by. Genius.

The pièce de résistance of the keyboard is the elegant built-in volume bar, which at the slide of a finger allows easy volume control of your PC or Mac (yes, this feature works with a Mac).

Overall, I would generally recommend this keyboard to high-end PC gamers and enthusiasts as well as owners of a media center computer, but if you’re willing to spend the steep $200 price, go out and buy one today.
