The multimedia-rich Nokia N93 mobile phone.

Nokia N93
The Nokia N-series of phones have always been multimedia rich, but the Nokia N93 holds the crown as being the king of all phones. Does it live up to the hype? I recently had the chance to try out the N93, and here’s what I had to say.

Starting off with the details, the Nokia N93 packs a whopping 3 megapixel video/still camera along with a gorgeous 2.4″ QVGA display. Did I mention that the N93’s camera also has a 2.4x optical zoom for getting up close?

The N93 is powered by the Symbian operating system, just like the N80 we previously reviewed last year; but unlike the N80, the N93 seems to perform a lot faster and quicker at tasks. The display on the N93 swivels to act as a video camcorder, and can also be swiveled to a landscape, laptop-like position.

The Nokia N93’s video and picture quality was amazing, almost near to that of a regular digital camera. The video was smooth and almost DVD-quality in MPEG4 format, while the photos were vibrant and crisp. Unfortunately, I returned the N93 early so I wasn’t able to get some sample shots, but there are some on Nokia’s website. Although it’s not digital-SLR quality, it’s good enough for printing out or sending to family and friends.

Just like the Nokia N80 though, the N93 has not been picked up by a carrier, so you’ll be paying the price; a whopping (that’s the 2nd time) $699 US dollars. Come on, Cingular, T-Mobile, pick this phone up! Besides the price, it’s well worth it for this multimedia rich phone, and the differences between the N80 and N93’s performance are so big, that it’s well worth the $100 extra over the N80. The N93 is quite bulky though, so if you’re looking for a thin, sliver-like phone, you’re in the right place.

Overall, the Nokia N93 is a great phone, and if you’re dying to be on the cutting-edge, run out and buy one today. If you’re the average consumer, on the other hand, you’ll probably be better off with another cheaper phone.

Pros

  • Great picture and video quality.
  • Faster than the Nokia N80.

Cons

Final Verdict
