As we’ve mentioned in the past, Plantronics has always been a global leader in the audio communications industry, and they’ve stepped it up a notch again with the Voyager 510-USB Bluetooth Headset System.
Note: This product also works with PC-based softphones, but in this review, we will only be covering the mobile aspect of this device.
The Voyager 510 is a traditional headset utilizing the behind the ear design, which some don’t like, but it works fine for me. I found the Bluetooth headset to be a little loose and you may have problems if you have smaller ears. Speaking of design, the power button is very tiny and was hard to locate, which can be a hassle if you have a call waiting. In addition to the power button, there are also volume controls and a call control button on the side of the mic boom.
The headset’s boom is also adjustable and can be setup to fit either your left or right ears, just flip up the boom and swivel. The headset also comes with three different sizes of earbuds, in case the pre-installed one doesn’t fit. Pairing the headset with my Motorola RAZR was a breeze, although instead of finding a user’s manual to figure out how to pair the headset, we had to load in a CD with a PDF document.
Sound quality was excellent thanks to the included noise-cancelling microphone and wind-reduction technology built in to the headset. Even without the AudioIQ technology built into the previously mentioned Discovery 665, callers still sounded superb.
A number of accessories are also available for the Voyager 510 including a desktop charging base that connects to your land line, but be warned that it costs a whopping $230.
The Plantronics Voyager 510-USB is available today for around $199, and a version without the PC USB connection is available for $99. A little pricey, but compared to the Discovery 665, is a cheaper option for everyone.

- USB-version is compatible with PC softphones.
- Sound quality is excellent.

Final Verdict
4 out of 5 stars.
