Altec Lansing iM600, great sound in a small package.

It's the first day of May and we're kicking off the month right with some great products, but this product was so good it had to be thrown into the mix. It's the new Altec Lansing iM600.
Borrowing its design aspects from the iM500 designed for the iPod nano, the iM600 adds some interesting features, including an FM radio, alarm clock, and a nice compact design. In addition, you can take this audio system to the beach, lake, or wherever you might be this summer as it has a rechargeable battery good for 7 hours of playtime.
On the back of the device are 5 ports: auxillary, subwoofer out, DC power jack, composite connector, and a mini-USB port for syncing your iPod.
The dock can fit any type of iPod that comes with the universal dock adapter, and Altec is nice enough to include the fifth-generation iPod and second-generation iPod nano adapters. In terms of looks though, a white version of the iM600 is not available, but Altec, if you're listening, please make one!
Now you may be curious about the sound since it doesn't look like the speakers have any power whatsoever. In fact, the iM600 has excellent sound, the best we've seen in such a small package. The FM tuner was also very nice and had good performance, picking up stations we've never even heard of in our area. The alarm clock is a nice feature, but can only be used with the included AC adapter unfortunately, our guess, to make sure the battery doesn't run out before the alarm clock goes off.
Weighing in at only 2.1 pounds, this inMotion is great for people on the go who want to listen to their iPods, other devices in their hotel room, or even carry it around the house without having to lug around a power brick (although you can use one).
The remote control was also very easy to use and is very comfortable in your hands, with controls for source selection, power, volume up/down, SFX, and radio presets. Storing the remote control is easy, just pop it into the back of the iM600 and you're good to go. On the contrary side is that the buttons on the top of the inMotion unit itself were small and it would've been nice if they were backlit, like the power and volume buttons on the iPod dock.
Overall, the iM600 is a great device with great sound and a great size for traveling.
