Palm’s Foleo mobile companion unfolds at D5

Just a few hours ago, Jeff Hawkins at the D5 Conference in Carlsbad, California unveiled Palm’s Foleo mobile companion. It isn’t a UMPC - but rather takes the data off your smartphone (most likely a Treo), and allows you to see it in a larger display, along with a full size QWERTY keyboard.
As far as we know, the Foleo doesn’t store any data but transfers everything over Bluetooth - what we’re interested in is what operating system it runs, looks very much like a variation of Linux or Palm OS. This is great for people who rely on their smartphones in their everyday routine - Foleo will be available this summer for $499 after a $100 mail-in rebate. Ouch.
Update 12:00PM
After a full read on Engadget, it looks like the Foleo will support Windows Mobile, and in the future BlackBerries and iPhones! Maybe this won’t be so bad after all.
