T-Mobile Wing: Windows Mobile 6 smartphone

Windows Mobile smartphones have become very popular over the past two or so years with the introduction of Windows Mobile 6, a faster, more stable version of the mobile operating system. T-Mobile recently put their offering into the pot with the T-Mobile Wing, and I recently had the opportunity to try it out.
The T-Mobile Wing design consists of a soft-touch blue finish that feels like rubber and offers a good grip in your hand. The blue is a turn from the traditional silver and black stylings of typical smartphones, and it may look like more of a consumer device than business. It is somewhat heavier than other smartphones on the market today though.
On the inside, the Wing runs Windows Mobile 6 Professional Edition and has both Wi-Fi (802.11b/g) and Bluetooth technologies to help keep you connected both on the go and in the office. Like most Windows Mobile smartphones, it has a sliding QWERTY keyboard and a 2-megapixel camera.
The Wing is also T-Mobile myFaves capable which means you can have unlimited calling to 5 people you choose, so you don’t have to worry about going over your minutes.
On the performance side of things, the Wing performed generally well but once you had multiple applications running at once, the unit started to slow down considerably. Probably due to the limited amount of system memory in the device. Voice quality was also very good, since the folks on the other end couldn’t tell if we were in a busy or quiet area of town.
Overall, if you’re a consumer and looking for a great device for email, text messaging, calling, and browsing with the added functionality of third-party applications – this may be the phone for you, as long as your fine with only running one or two applications at a time. Since it does work with Microsoft Exchange, as do all Windows Mobile based phones, it may also be the perfect email device for your business. The T-Mobile Wing is available for $299 after an instant discount and a mail-in rebate.
