Epson Stylus CX9400Fax

I was recently sent a review unit of the brand new Epson Stylus CX9400Fax all-in-one inkjet printer. It’s the perfect all-in-one for a small home office or business, but it isn’t all about documents, it’s actually a great photo printer as well. Is it right for you? Read on for the scoop.

The Epson Stylus CX9400Fax, as you can probably tell by the model number, is an all-in-one copy, scan, photo, and fax inkjet printer. On the front is a large 2.5-inch LCD for sending faxes, copying documents, and printing out your favorite memories. Also on the front are slots for popping in a memory card of your choice (including the latest SDHC format).

The CX9400Fax uses the same ink for both documents and photos, unlike printers I’ve used in the past where you would have to keep an extra set of ink laying around just for printing photos. Inside the CX9400Fax are four individual ink cartridges, which saves money on ink by replacing only the color you need.

The interface on the printer is very well designed and allows you to easily get to the task at hand, it also clearly shows the ink levels when printing, both on the printer and on your computer screen.

In our testing, we tested all aspects of the printer, from basic document printing to photo printing. The CX9400Fax is exceptionally fast, printing out a page in less than a minute depending on how complex the document is. Copying and scanning couldn’t be simpler, thanks to the automatic document feeder and the traditional scanning method. Faxing was also very simple and very straight-forward. Enter the number you want to fax to, put in the sheets of paper you want to fax and press dial. You can’t fax directly from a computer however.

In our photo printing test, we printed a variety of photos and compared them to previous prints from other printers. Prints from the CX9400Fax were vivid and crisp, similar to the results from the PictureMate Dash we reviewed in December of 2007.

All in all, the Epson Stylus CX9400Fax is an excellent all-in-one for the small home office, or small business and does the job fast and efficient. The CX9400Fax is available today for just under $120 from Amazon.com.
