Logitech G500 Gaming Mouse Review

Gamers are always looking for the best possible performance out of their mice and keyboards, and Logitech has always been a strong name in the industry. How does their latest product, the G500 which costs $70, stack up to the rest? Is it customizable enough for the hardcore crowd? Find out after the break.

The G500 is a reboot of the popular G5 mouse which has long been a stronghold for any gamer. In the box, you’ll find series of weights that you can add or take out of the G500, for added feel and control in a variety of games. The mouse also brings the dual-mode scroll wheel first introduced in the MX Revolution mouse. Simply click a button and get high-speed scrolling for working in tasks such as Excel spreadsheets (which works great, by the way), or click-to-click scrolling for selecting weapons. On the mouse are also ten buttons that are programmable to various macros with the included software.

The DPI is adjustable from 200dpi for super precise mouse movements, to 5700 dpi for super fast movements. You can adjust the DPI using the up and down buttons located near the left mouse button. I thought these would get in the way, and I did end up accidentally switching the setting once or twice, but once you get used to it, it works perfectly.

The software included works like a breeze and allows customization over nearly everything from pointer movement settings to polling rate. You can also save profiles (albeit one on this model, more on higher-end mice) to the mouse for those who like to carry their settings from PC to PC, such as at a LAN party.

There isn’t a lot to dislike with this mouse, besides the fact that within three weeks of using it, the rubber coating was peeling off the sides of the mouse where your thumb and little finger sit. A minor flaw but it obviously does not affect performance.

Overall, Logitech’s latest and greatest is a perfect choice for any gamer looking for the maximum in performance, but there are other choices that we’ll be looking at later in the year that could make you reconsider. Find the G500 gaming mouse at Amazon.com for just under $65 with free shipping.
