First Look: Magellan RoadMate for iPhone

magellan_roadmate_iphoneJoining TomTom, MotionX, and Navigon, Magellan has now entered the highly competitive market of turn-by-turn navigation apps for the iPhone. The new RoadMate app features the OneTouch user menu exclusively from Magellan and turn-by-turn guidance with text-to-speech functionality. All maps are stored on the iPhone, so GPS navigation is still functional without a connection to the cell network. Users have access to over 6 million points of interest including gas stations, restaurants, and ATMs as well as realistic 3D renderings of key landmarks.

The RoadMate app which is available on the App Store for an introductory price of $79.99 also has a companion car kit, which will be available for $129.99. The car kit adds an enhanced GPS receiver, amplified speaker, and Bluetooth for hands-free calling.
