intel atom pinetrail e1261376680304 First Look: Intel Next Generation Atom PlatformIntel unveiled its latest plans for their highly-successful Atom processor platform today. Their newest processor line will feature integrated graphics on the CPU, and enable power reduction to squeeze even more battery life into netbooks and nettops (Atom-based desktops). In the latest netbooks, you can expect to find the new Atom N450 processor with 512k of L2 cache running at 1.66GHz. In Atom-based desktops, you'll see either the D410, a single-core Atom processor, or the D510, a dual-core version with a 1MB L2 cache. As for the graphics and power consumption, Intel notes that the platform has a 20 percent improvement in power and a 60 percent footprint reduction.

We hope that this will bring even more netbooks to the market with more than a four-hour battery life and better graphics capabilities, albeit not at the NVIDIA Ion level.

Pricing and availability will be announced in January at CES in Las Vegas.

Systems with this new platform will also become available in January as OEMs announce them. More information below, including a video demonstration.
