After being leaked, Garmin confirmed the launch of four new products to their line of GPS units and software. While this isn’t much of a surprise, we are quite interested in some of the things they’re coming out with.
Garmin Approach G3 Golf GPS
I’m not much of a golfer, but the G3 Golf GPS is a slimmer and cheaper option for those of you who want to see the course as you’re playing through. Features include:
- Glove-friendly 2.6″ Color Display
- Waterproof for all weather usage
- Over 12,000 courses mapped on the device
Seems all in all like a pretty good option for golf fanatics. If you’re looking for a post-Christmas gift for the golfer in your life, this could very well be it. Full press release here.
Garmin ecoRoute hd
Alright, now this is something that I’m interested in. As pictured at the top of this post, the ecoRoute hd plugs into your car’s diagnostic system and tracks engine RPMs, temperature, intake pressures, etc. As an auto enthusiast, this product seems like a perfect GPS companion. Not only does the product obtain the information real-time, but also provides graphs to help you conserve fuel in the long run.
- Monitors driving habits to rate how “green” your driving is based on acceleration, braking, and average speed.
- Provides real-time engine information as provided by your car’s diagnostic system
- Explains potential “Check Engine” service light errors

Garmin Voice Studio
For those of you out there who really like your own voice, or want to prank friends by replacing “right” with “left” and vice versa, there’s Voice Studio. Available now, the program lets you record your own voice overs for directions on the GPS. It’s absolutely free, so if you want to try it out, head on over to Garmin’s website. Full press release here.
Garmin zumo 665
Aimed at motorcyclists, the zumo 665 is a touchscreen GPS featuring XM satellite functionality. Listen to XM Radio, get traffic reports, and utilize the XM NavWeather service all from this simple device.
- Typical Garmin GPS with spoken street names, junction view, and lane assist
- Another glove-friendly 4.3″ touchscreen
- Waterproofed for obvious outdoor use
- XM radio with 170 channels (requires subscription)
