Not to be outdone by LG launching new TVs and Blu-ray players, Panasonic has unveiled a trifecta of 3D goodness: a professional level 3D camera, a new line of 3D HDTVs, and a 3D compatible Blu-ray player. It’s quite apparent that 3D is to this decade as HDTV was to last.
The $21,000 professional 3D HD camera’s price tag is bound to scare away any non-professional users, but offers an easier option to movie producers to film 3D content. Instead of dealing with multiple cameras, this single, portable camera contains two lenses that dynamically focus on the convergence point, making for little to no calibration on the user’s behalf. Expect this made-to-order camera to go on sale this fall.
As far as the new line of TVs, expect new 50-64″ Viera HDTVs with 3D capability. Like LG, Panasonic has partnered with companies like Skype and YouTube to provide for on-television connectivity without a computer. Again, similar to the LG series, you can attach a camera and Skype directly from the comfort of your living room. As a complement to these new 3D-compatible TVs (which require trendy “active-shutter glasses” for the 3D effect), Panasonic also announced new Blu-ray players with full support for 3D content.
