The first Windows Phone from Nokia is hitting the United States in just a few weeks with the Lumia 710. The Lumia 710 will come in white or black and boasts a 3.7-inch “ClearBlack” WVGA scratch-resistant display, the QualComm 1.4GHz Snapdragon processor, and a 5 megapixel camera. For more specs, head on over to our first look at the new Nokia Lumia devices from October.

T-Mobile is targeting the new smartphone at the nearly 150 million Americans who still don’t have a smartphone due to high cost and expensive data plans, but the Lumia 710 won’t break the bank for $49.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate and two-year contract. Expect the Lumia 710 to be available at T-Mobile stores, other retailers, and online at T-Mobile’s website beginning January 11.

Move over Jawbone UP, Lark is adding a new personal coach assistant to its silent alarm and wireless sleep tracking software, which the company launched in May.

The new Lark Personal Sleep Coach adds a 7-day sleep assessment that will reveal what type of sleeper you are and your sleep patterns. To get started, you’ll need to wear the wristband for seven days and sleep, of course. The coaching portion also includes a 7-day sleep report that contains an action plan based on the data gathered. The report will give you some next steps to take to improve your sleeping habits as well as tailored sleep tips based on the sleep type and patterns collected during the assessment. You’ll also be able to compare your sleep to your average and the sleep population.

Within the app, you can tag issues that may arise and see how external factors weigh in, such as caffeine. And what would be a tracking app without some sort of social networking integration? The new app allows you to share your improvement and progress along the way with Facebook friends and Twitter followers.

If you need more, Lark Pro is available for an additional $60 with a “richer set of tools”, though the specifics of what you get extra is not detailed.

Find Lark in Apple Stores, Walmart, Radio Shack and select Target stores for $99.

This time not at Apple, but a new company he co-founded called Nest. His first product? The Nest Learning Thermostat. It does exactly what it says, it programs itself based on temperatures you set within a week. Based on that information, it starts automatically turning down heating or cooling when you’re out of the house to save energy.

The Learning Thermostat connects to your home Wi-Fi network and you can control it from any laptop, smartphone, or tablet to change the temperature, adjust the schedule and check how you’re doing energy-wise. You can also control the thermostat by just walking up to it and rotating the outer ring to adjust the temperature. Pushing down opens the menu.

Nest is offering a bundled installation service with purchase or you can install it yourself if you’re just that handy. Nest says, “If you’ve installed a lighting fixture, you’ll find that installing Nest is a similar process.” The thermostat works with most HVAC systems and comes with a five-year limited hardware warranty. Expect the product to be out in November for $249.

In addition to the USB 3.0 port, both feature USB 2.0 ports.

Hot on the heels of the iPad launch this past Saturday, Apple is holding an invite-only media event on Thursday, April 8th to give a “sneak peek” at the next version of iPhone OS. The company sent invites to multiple tech blogs and websites this morning. What this could mean, no one knows exactly, but sources are pointing to built-in multitasking functionality similar to Expose on Mac OS X.

We could also see a new user interface and HD graphics that could make their way to a new iPhone released later this summer. While we won’t be live blogging the event since we didn’t get an invite, we will be providing meta-coverage of the event. In the meantime, stay tuned for our iPad review.

The sweet-sauce to the Touch is HTC’s new TouchFLO touchscreen application that puts everything in a 3D interface for you to pan and scroll across with your finger and navigate within your contacts and media.

The phone is available in the UK but won’t be available in the US until the second half of this year – we’ll have more on the HTC Touch then.

The HTC Touch is the first device to feature TouchFLOâ„¢, the new underlying touch screen technology developed by HTC. Consumers simply sweep their finger up the display to launch an animated, three-dimensional interface comprising three screens: Contacts, Media and Applications. The interface can be spun by swiping a finger right or left across the display, providing efficient access to the features consumers use most. TouchFLOâ„¢ also enhances finger touch scrolling and browsing of Web pages, documents, messages and contact lists.

The iPhone release date has been confirmed: June 29th. Apple has begun airing a series of three television ads starting tonight on CBS. Each ad shows various features of the iPhone and ends with “Coming on June 29″. A two year contract is required, but no other details are available (data plan, etc).

According to 9 to 5 Mac – there is no place to swap the SIM card or replace the battery and iChat is not included in the latest OS build. It could be available as a separate download. Something new is that the Safari web browser includes tabbed browsing and a VPN client for businesses is rumored.

Be sure to stay tuned for more iPhone news on Connect.

Just a few hours ago, Jeff Hawkins at the D5 Conference in Carlsbad, California unveiled Palm’s Foleo mobile companion. It isn’t a UMPC – but rather takes the data off your smartphone (most likely a Treo), and allows you to see it in a larger display, along with a full size QWERTY keyboard.

As far as we know, the Foleo doesn’t store any data but transfers everything over Bluetooth – what we’re interested in is what operating system it runs, looks very much like a variation of Linux or Palm OS. This is great for people who rely on their smartphones in their everyday routine – Foleo will be available this summer for $499 after a $100 mail-in rebate. Ouch.

Update 12:00PM
After a full read on Engadget, it looks like the Foleo will support Windows Mobile, and in the future BlackBerries and iPhones! Maybe this won’t be so bad after all.

Microsoft has taken the wraps off what looks like will be a competitor to Apple’s Multi-Touch technology used on the iPhone, it’s what they call Microsoft Surface.

In what they hope will be a long line of “Surface” computers, Microsoft has developed technology that will allow users to navigate around without a keyboard or mouse. Although the Surface products will not be available to consumers, three businesses have been selected to become the first companies to utilize the technology. Harrah’s Entertainment, Starwood Hotels and Resorts, and T-Mobile; these businesses will be able to customize the applications to their liking to create distinctive experiences for the customer.

Turns out today, at the D5 Conference in Carlsbad, CA – Steve Ballmer will unveil the technology, just before Apple CEO Steve Jobs takes the stage in a historic event with Bill Gates. Should be an interesting show – we’ll provide you with more coverage throughout the day.

Interestingly enough, Apple’s gesture for “pinching” a photo to enlarge it on the iPhone is similar to the way Microsoft allows you to resize it on the surface and arrange them in a collage-type view.

The only details that have been released are that it is a 30-inch display powered by a DLP projector and custom made Microsoft software. If you were lucky, you were also able to see a sneak peek at the device on NBC’s “The Today Show” this morning.

T-Mobile introduced their new Windows Mobile 6-based smartphone today, the only WM6 phone to hit the US but more devices should be on their way. The new T-Mobile Wing includes the standard Bluetooth and WiFi capability on most Windows Mobile smartphones (except the Treo) and a 2 megapixel camera. Keeping up to date with T-Mobile services, the Wing is a myFaves device and has a microSD slot for expansion. Did we mention it has a super sleek QWERTY keyboard?

Straight from the press release:

“In today’s hectic and fast-paced world, staying connected to those who matter most is not easy,” said Leslie Grandy, vice president, Product Development, T-Mobile USA. “With the T-Mobile Wing, customers have the freedom to choose how to communicate, whether it’s calling their loved ones, e-mailing with friends, or sharing presentations with a client from one of more than 8,000 T-Mobile HotSpot locations.”

The T-Mobile Wing is available immediately for $299.99 with a 2-year contract. Expect a review from Connect within the next few weeks along with a hands-on article showcasing the devices features.

At second glance, the mystery of how they got all that functionality into that really small space deepens. Augmented by a simple press of the power button – this digital camera comes alive and the family resemblance to not one, but many of Canon’s crowning camera achievements becomes immediately apparent…a stainless-steel barrier on the camera’s leading-edge slides away to unleash the PowerShot TX1 digital camera’s formidable (and optically image-stabilized) 10x optical zoom lens that glides smoothly from its resting place into the open air. Unfold a simple yet securely hinged housing, and an 115,000-pixel Vari-Angle LCD screen is freed to swivel camcorder-like from the PowerShot TX1 digital camera’s side.

This digital dynamo even adds a 30 fps High Definition (HD) 720p widescreen (16:9) capability to its movie mode at the press of a button. What’s more, the PowerShot TX1 digital camera has easy connectivity to play its movies or high quality stills back on high-def TVs, thanks to Canon’s thoughtful inclusion of a convenient component video output terminal.

Wow. Don’t wait, go see it for yourself. It’s that amazing. Yes, Canon is impressing everybody in the consumer press world with the new TX1 digital camera and camcorder. You heard right, a digital camera AND camcorder. The TX1 packs in a 7.1 megapixel digital camera much like the SD750 and SD1000, and a flip out LCD along with a digital camcorder capable of recording in 720p high-definition video at 30 fps.

The PowerShot TX1 will be flying out of the stores sometime in March for $499.

Canon introduced two new Digital Elph cameras in their PowerShot lineup today. The SD750 and the SD1000 are based on the overly successful Elph camera lineup that goes way back to the film-based days and are both 7.1 megapixel cameras.

Pictured above, the SD750 features “artfully sculpted contours, evocative etched surfaces and even the option of dual-tone, silver and midnight matte black face and full-black back panel that blends seamlessly with its large and newly enhanced three-inch LCD display,” with this three-inch magnificent display, you’re able to preview your shots before you get back to your computer, great for showing off your photos at parties. Unlike the SD750, the SD1000 features a smaller 2.5 inch LCD display and is much more boxy-looking. Both cameras though, do weigh in at under 5 ounces so you can fit this one in your pocket or purse, great for on the go.

Both the SD750 and the SD1000 cameras will be available in late March for $299.99 and $349.99 respectively.

More pictures after the jump. Expect a review of both of these cameras to come within the next few months.
